🔥 Custom Apron Magic: Where Sublimation Meets Embroidery 🔥

Some projects are just fun from start to finish—and this custom apron was exactly that.

For this piece, I started with a polyester apron but because it is black I needed to sub it on white and apply it to the apron. and used full-color sublimation to bring the artwork to life. Sublimation is hands-down one of my favorite techniques because it allows for rich detail, smooth gradients, and a permanent, vibrant image that won’t crack or peel. Once the image was sublimated and set, the real magic began. ✨

🧵 From Sublimation to Stitch Perfection

After sublimating the design, I uploaded the image into Hatch Embroidery Software, where I carefully digitized the outline to transform it into a machine embroidery file. The goal? To give the design dimension, structure, and that professional, finished look that embroidery does best.

I then stitched a clean, bold satin stitch all the way around the design, framing the image beautifully and locking everything into place. That satin border not only adds durability but also creates a striking contrast against the apron—giving it that custom-made, high-end feel.

👨‍🍳 Built for Style and Function

This apron isn’t just good-looking—it’s made to be worn and worked in. The combination of sublimation and embroidery means:

✔️ Vibrant, long-lasting color

✔️ No peeling or fading

✔️ A smooth yet durable embroidered edge

✔️ A truly one-of-a-kind custom piece

Whether it’s for grilling, cooking, catering, or just being the BBQ King of the backyard, this apron brings personality and craftsmanship together in one wearable design.

💡 Why I Love Mixed-Media Projects

Projects like this are my favorite because they blend multiple techniques—sublimation for detail and embroidery for texture and durability. It’s the best of both worlds and allows for endless customization options.

If you can dream it, I can stitch it. 😉
